Juba and Shebelle Agriculture and Livestock Professional Association (JUSALPA)
JUSALPA promotes sustainable agriculture practices tailored to the specific environmental and climatic conditions of Somalia. Our programs focus on improving soil health, water management, and crop diversity. Through training and the distribution of high-quality seeds and tools, we equip farmers with the knowledge and resources to increase their productivity while preserving the environment.
In response to the challenges posed by climate change, JUSALPA implements climate-smart agriculture techniques that help farmers adapt to changing conditions. This includes introducing drought-resistant crops, improving irrigation methods, and promoting agroforestry. These practices not only increase food production but also enhance the resilience of farming communities against climate-related risks.
Economic empowerment is a key focus of our livelihood programs. JUSALPA offers vocational training and skills development courses in areas such as agriculture, livestock management, and small business management. These programs are designed to provide individuals with the skills they need to secure stable employment or start their own enterprises, leading to greater economic independence.
Supporting small and microenterprises is crucial for economic growth and poverty reduction. JUSALPA provides financial support, business training, and mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs. By helping individuals establish and grow their businesses, we contribute to the creation of jobs and the stimulation of local economies.
JUSALPA promotes income-generating activities that offer sustainable economic opportunities for vulnerable populations. These activities include beekeeping, poultry farming, and handicrafts. By diversifying income sources, we help families build economic resilience and improve their overall quality of life.
In times of crisis, JUSALPA implements cash transfer programs to provide immediate financial relief to those in need. Our cash-for-work and cash-for-agriculture initiatives combine direct financial assistance with productive activities, allowing households to meet their basic needs while also investing in their future livelihoods.
To combat acute food insecurity, JUSALPA coordinates food distribution programs that provide essential food supplies to vulnerable households. Additionally, we offer nutrition support services that focus on improving dietary diversity and addressing malnutrition, particularly among children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
JUSALPA encourages community involvement in the management of natural resources to ensure sustainable use and conservation. Through the formation of community-based organizations, we facilitate the development of local strategies for managing land, water, and other resources. This participatory approach helps communities take ownership of their resources and fosters long-term sustainability.
